Its reconstruction commenced in 1425, after the Hussite Wars during which the monastery was ravaged by the Hussite soldiers. At the time of reformation in 1573 the tutor of Emperor Rudolf II, Šebastián Freytág of Čepirohy, took over the abbey. His name is unforgettably connected with the history of Znojemsko as he was the founder of the gherkin growing tradition. During the ruling of his successor Šebastián II Fuchs Bádenský, a printing office was established in Louka. The 18th century meant not only a culmination of the monastery's construction activities in the form of a magnificent new structure, but also its termination caused by Josephine reforms from 1784. After the monastery was closed down, the imperial army settled in the unfinished new buildings, later followed by the Engineer Academy. During the years 1869 to 1993 the whole area was constantly used as a barracks.
