MACOCHA ABYSS It is likely to have been created by a breakthrough of a weakened arch of a massive underground dome through which the Punkva has flowed. The massive size of the Macocha Abyss allows day-lighting of the whole area. That reflects the climate and vegetative conditions. Macocha is the largest gorge of its kind in Central Europe. Its bottom has been part of the Punkva Caves public tour since 1914. The gorge itself may be viewed from two observation bridges: upper bridge - 138 m above the bottom - and lower bridge - approx. 90 m above the bottom. Not far from the upper bridge is a cableway station leading to the Punkva Caves. A cottage called Chata Macocha is located near the gorge and in the summer an information centre is open there.
